The Gossip of Strength

Writer's picture: Hassanah WhiteHassanah White

“Girl did you hear....?” This is usually how a conversation of gossip begins. Let me take it a step further, “You didn’t hear this from me, but did you know looking strong is the new normal?” This past week I read a message that said, “check on your strong friends.” I replayed that in my mind and carefully thought, whose meaning of strength are we looking at?

Let‘s consider some questions.

  1. If you can bench press 100 pounds, does that make you strong?

  2. If you get hurt and never shed a tear does that make you strong?

  3. If you’re working full time, part time, and all the time and you don’t break a sweat or stop to rest does that make you strong?

  4. When someone ask you “How are you?” Is it your default to say I am ok? I’m good? Is it your truth? What would happen to you if someone ask you that question, and you said, “I’m struggling today, or my heart hurts.” Will your reputation be ruined?

The world we live in looks down on the weak or the expression of weakness. It is considered unattractive and powerless.

Go with me to the Bible as we dig into the lives of Moses and David. Two men who the world would consider weak, but God assign to them a destiny that we still talk about today.

Moses counted himself out because he said his speech was not eloquent. In Exodus 4:11, God reminded Moses that He gave him his mouth. The Lord told him to go and I WILL HELP YOU speak. Moses was trusted to lead millions of Israelites out of bondage, and it was not due to his own strength.

David wasn’t even counted amongst the one’s to be chosen. He wasn’t even invited inside the house. 1 Samuel 16:7, when Samuel went to anoint David’s brother, the Lord told Samuel , “Do not consider his appearance or his height for I have rejected him.” The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. David was trusted to fight Goliath, and it was not due to his own strength.

What are you portraying sis when it comes to strength. Take a moment to TREASURE who you are. God made no mistake when He created you. He didn’t set you out to strive at this or that to make yourself look “strong,” but He wants you to just BE! I Encourage you to hear God in his Word.

Psalms 27:14; Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.

1 Chronicles 16:11; Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.

2 Corinthians 12:9; But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

Isaiah 40:29; He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

Psalms 73:26; My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Proverbs 29:23; One’s pride will bring him low, but he who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor.

If you are considered that “strong friend” I urge you to let go and let God use you. Let Him use what you’ve been afraid to expose because you thought it was weak.

I insist that you don’t keep this gossip between us, please share it. People are hungry for revelation.
